CROSS COUNTRY
The 2023 cross country season begins on Friday evening in Abilene, Texas as the Buffs and Lady Buffs take part in the Big Country Festival hosted by McMurray University at the ACU Cross Country Course.
Expectations are high for the Buffs and Lady Buffs this season as the men's squad was picked atop of the Lone Star Conference Preseason Poll while the Lady Buffs were tabbed second in the league. The Buffs are looking to win their 11th straight LSC Championship.
Zach Daniel enters his second season as the head coach of the West Texas A&M Cross Country program in 2023. Daniel led the men's program to their tenth consecutive LSC Championship and was named the LSC Coach of the Year. His runners earned ten All-Conference honors, one All-Academic, the LSC Championship individual finishes for both men's and women's and had both the men's and women's Lone Star Conference Runners of the Year.Â

FOOTBALL
West Texas A&M begins a new era of Buffalo Football on Saturday afternoon as they travel to Gunnison, Colorado to take on the Western Colorado Mountaineers with kickoff set for 2:00 p.m. CT at Katy O'Rady Soccer Field.
The Buffaloes and Mountaineers meet for the eighth time in school history on the gridiron on Saturday afternoon. WT is a perfect 7-0 all-time in the series that dates back to 1938. The Buffs are 2-0 all-time in Gunnison and Saturday marks their first trip since 2013. The game will be played at Katy O' Rady Soccer Field due to the ongoing renovation construction at the Mountaineer Bowl.
Josh Lynn is in his first season at the helm of the West Texas A&M Football program after being named the 29th head coach in program history in December of 2022. Lynn, widely regarded as one of the nation's up-and-coming head coaches, came to Canyon following six seasons at the University of Nebraska-Kearney where he led the Lopers to an overall record of 35-25 including a run to the Second Round of the 2021 NCAA Division II Playoffs. Lynn coached 61 all-conference selections during his time in Kearney while being named the MIAA Coach of the Year in 2021.

MEN'S SOCCER
The Buffaloes open up their 2023 campaign on Saturday evening as they travel to San Antonio, Texas to take on the #5 Rattlers of St. Mary's in a non-conference showdown at Sigma Beta Chi Field.
WT was tabbed third in the Lone Star Conference Men's Soccer Preseason Poll as
Asaf Kristal,
Bryan Martinez and
Chris Palomino were named to the Players to Watch List. The Buffs are coming off of the program's eighth appearance in the NCAA Tournament.
Butch Lauffer enters his 33rd season as head men's soccer coach at West Texas A&M. Lauffer is now the longest tenured head coach in WT history in a storied career dating back to 1991.

WOMEN'S SOCCER
Lady Buff Soccer kicks off the 2023 season on the road against Colorado State-Pueblo on Thursday with kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. Central time. The Lady Buffs look to win three-straight season openers for the first time since 2011.
WT leads the all-time series with the ThunderWolves, 7-5-1 as WT has won two-straight meetings including a 3-0 home victory last season. The Lady Buffs advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division II Postseason last fall, finishing with an overall record of 14-4-4.
Chad Webb enters his 14th season at the helm of the WT women's soccer program having led the Lady Buffs to five Lone Star Conference Championships, four NCAA Tournament appearances and one regional title.Â

VOLLEYBALL
Kendra Potts and the defending NCAA Division II National Champions will host the annual BritKare Lady Buff Classic on September 1-2 to open the 2023 campaign. The five-team event features St. Mary's, East Central, Adams State and Davenport.
The Lady Buffs begin the season ranked atop of the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA) Division II Top-25 Poll.Â
Potts enters her fifth season at the helm of the Lady Buffs as she was named the 15th head coach in WT Volleyball history on December 10, 2018. Potts was named the 2022 AVCA National Coach of the year for NCAA Division II.

The LSC Digital Network enters its fifth year in 2023-24, showcasing academic and athletic events from the league, its 17 member institutions (Angelo State, Cameron, DBU, Eastern New Mexico, Lubbock Christian, Midwestern State, Oklahoma Christian, St. Edward's, St. Mary's, Texas A&M International, Texas A&M-Kingsville, Texas Woman's, UAFS, UT Permian Basin, UT Tyler, West Texas A&M and Western New Mexico) and two football affiliates (Central Washington and Western Oregon) in partnership with Hudl.

During the 2022-23 season, the LSC Digital Network hosted 2,076 events – the most in league history and one of the highest totals of any digital network in NCAA Division II. Over 300,000 fans tuned in for more than 241,000 hours of LSC competition.

The league's digital platform has generated nearly $1 million in revenue over the past two years that has been distributed back to member institutions.
