2023 OUTDOOR SEASON

PUEBLO, CO. – West Texas A&M Lady Buffs finish third at the 2023 NCAA Outdoor National Championship. The Lady Buffs scored a team total 49 points, with majority of their points coming on the last day of competition. The three-day NCAA DII Outdoor National Championship took place in Pueblo, Colorado at CSU-Pueblo Thunderdome from May 25-27.Â

Head Coach Matthew Stewart said about the weekend, "I'm very proud of all our men and women this weekend.  They competed hard and represented WT at the highest level.  To have both programs in the top 3 outdoor as well as excelling in indoor and cross country is what we envision for our program: to be a complete program."

No. 3 LADY BUFFS
The Lady Buffs scored in nine events over the three-day outdoor national championship. The team effort came from both the track and field events with
Taylor Nelloms scoring in both the high jump and triple jump. The Lady Buffs relay teams each brought in points with the 4x100 relay placing third and the 4x400 relay placing fourth.Â

The 4x100 relay team is arguably the fastest relay team in Lady Buff history. The team is comprised of
Jordanae' Scott,
Leah Belfield,
Alana Wilson and
DeOndra Green. This team has been running together for a year and has placed all five top-5  times in WT history with their most recent top-5 time of 44.23 coming on Saturday at the NCAA DII Outdoor National Championship.Â

The 4x400 relay team comprised of
Corrssia Perry,
Alana Wilson,
Moillet Kouakou and
Jordan Brown ran the fastest time in WT history at 3:36.69. The race began with Perry taking a strong lead in the first 300 meters, Wilson took over and ran one of her best legs on the curve before finishing out with Kouakou and Brown.Â

WT graduate
Alana Wilson ran in both relays and gained 11 points for the Lady Buffs. Wilson competed in four total events including the preliminaries in the 100 meter and 200 meter.Â

Eleonora Curtabbi placed first in the steeplechase with a time of 10:22.76 and now owns the top-5 WT records and has an additional two records in the same event. She came in 2.22 seconds ahead of second place on Friday night.
Taylor Nelloms brought in 10 points for the Lady Buffs with majority coming from her best event, the triple jump. Nelloms jumped 13.30m, placed second overall and that jump became her second-best jump of her career at WT.Â

Junior
Florance Uwajeneza ran back-to-back days with Friday being the 10,000 meter and Saturday, the 5,000 meter. Uwajeneza kept pace for majority of the races before falling back within the last three laps. She brought in a team high 11 points individually.Â
