CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M head women's basketball coach
Josh Prock has announced the addition of UT Arlington transfer Bella Ringenberg for the 2023-24 campaign.
Â
"We are very excited to add Bella to our team for the upcoming season, she will bring tremendous depth and competition to our post position. Bella is a young lady that is versatile she can score the basketball on the block and can hit the 17-foot shot with consistency" said Prock "We felt that she was a perfect fit for the offense we are wanting to continue to run. One of the things that really impressed us with her was her ability to defend and rebound, she moves and runs very well in transition."
Â
Ringenberg comes to Canyon following one season at UT Arlington where she saw time in 15 games for the Lady Mavs. The 6'3 post averaged 5.1 minutes per contest as she grabbed 12 rebounds (seven offensive, five defensive) to go along with one assist, two blocks and two steals. UTA finished the campaign with an overall record of 14-17 as they advanced to the opening round of the WAC Tournament.
Â
The talented post player is a 2022 graduate of Sanger High School where she was a Texas Girls Coaches Association (TGCA) All-State selection for the Indians under head coach Derek Hilliard. She was named the District 9-4A Most Valuable Player during her senior campaign while also claiming Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-Region honors.
Â
"We know to continue to win in our very competitive conference and compete on a National level you have to have the size in your front line and we know Bella brings that size to help us continue to compete" added Prock "Bella is also a tremendous young lady off the court as well, she is a standout student and someone who will represent our program in a first class manner."
Â
Bella is the daughter of Gary and Krista Ringenberg and she has three siblings: Mitch, Beau and Tara. She is expected to major in Animal Science at West Texas A&M.
Â
"Bella was everything you could ask for in a player. People say your nothing if your best player isn't your hardest worker, but Bella was and then some" said head coach Derek Hilliard of Sanger High School "She led both vocally and by her effort and extra work she put in. She held teammates accountable and naturally made everyone around her want to be better. You are getting a great kid in every way."
