CANYON, TX – West Texas A&M University Track and Field remain the No. 1 and No. 2 ranks in the nation in the USTFCCCA week 8 rankings. The Lady Buffs have been ranked No. 1 for three weeks in a row and have held the No. 1 rank for five weeks this season.
The Buffs and Lady Buffs had won the Lone Star Conference Championship for the third consecutive year, the first time in Lone Star Conference history that both a men's and women's team had done so.
This past weekend, WT held the Last Chance meet where athletes could better their marks in hopes of qualifying for the NCAA DII Outdoor National Championship.
LADY BUFFS No.1
The Lady Buffs stay in the lead at No. 1. The 4x100 relay team comprised of Jordanae' Scoot,
Leah Belfield,
Alana Wilson and
DeOndra Green dropped a nation-leading performance this weekend with a time of 44.27c. They beat their previous No. 1 record of 44.34. Senior,
Brooke Urban, retains her national lead in the high jump with a height of 1.81m (5-11.25), while
Taylor Nelloms continue to hold the No. 2 position in triple jump, 13.29 (43-7.25). Eleonora Curttabi continues to be the national leader in the steeplechase (9:57.76), the only DII athlete to have a sub-10 mark in the event, and in the 1500 meters (4:18.72). The Lady Buffs also add three additional top-5 efforts:
Florance Uwajeneza, No. 3 in the 5000 meter (16:07.13) and No. 2 in the 10,000 meters (32:49,06), and No. 2
Corrssia Perry in the 400-meter (52.82c).
BUFFS No. 2
The Buffs hold steady at No. 2. They feature a nation leading 4x100 relay (38.92) and a No. 3 4x400 relay (3:08.47). The Buffs sprinters team features five marks in the top-5 of their respective events including, National Athlete of the Week,
Quinton Sansing in the 400 meters (45.65c).
Isaac Botsio and
Jeremiah Lauzon hold the No. 1 times in the nation in the 100 meter and 200 meter. Teammate,
Joseph Manu, is right behind in the No. 2 rank in both events.
Butare Rugenerwa adds a No. 4 perfomance in the 800 meters (1:48.19), as well as in the top-20 of the 1500 meters (3:45.04).
West Texas A&M holds steady at No. 2 in the Week 8 TFRI. The Buffs feature a nation-leading 4×100 relay (38.92), and a No. 3 4×400 relay (3:08.47). Their sprint team features five marks in the top-5 of their respective events, including a national lead for
Quinton Sansing in the 400 meters (45.65c).
Butare Rugenerwa adds a No. 4 performance in the 800 meters (1:48.19), as well as a 3:45.04 performance in the 1500 meters that puts him 17th.
