CANYON, TX – West Texas A&M University track and field team had improvements on multiple events at the Last Chance meet held in Canyon, TX on Friday, May 12.
The Last Chance meet was an opportunity to improve qualifying marks for the NCAA DII Outdoor Nationals. After the Lone Star Conference Championship, the Lady Buffs and Buffs hit provisional marks in the 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100 and 4x400 along with field events high jump and triple jump.
LADY BUFFS No.1
The Lady Buffs 4x100 relay team remains No. 1 in the nation with a season best time of 44.15, beating their own previous No. 1 record of 44.34. The team, consisting of
DeOndra Green,
Leah Belfield,
Alana Wilson and
Jordanae' Scott, continue to dominate the relay and hold the top four best times in WT history.
Miriam Zanovello moves into the fifth spot in the nation and is likely to hit provisional with a jump of 12.70m in the triple jump.
Taylor Nelloms moves into 15
th provisionally in the long jump with a distance of 6.09m, a personal best for her in the event.
Freshman
Alex Tice had a personal best in the shot put with a distance of 13.10m and the discus with a throw of 43.07m.
BUFFS No. 2
Quinton Sansing had an outstanding race in the 400 meter. Sansing broke the No. 1 record set by Earl Wilson in 1982; Wilson held the record for 59 years with a time of 45.88, Sansing ran with a time of 45.54. He now holds six out of ten records all-time for WT. Currently, Sansing ranks No. 1 in the nation this outdoor season and No. 13 all-time in NCAA Division II history.
Sophomore,
Luke Holcombe, bettered his shot put throw to 17.57m, which places him at 14
th on the provisional list for NCAA DII outdoor nationals and now ranks as the second best throw in WT history.
