Four Lady Buffs Earn NFCA All-Region Recognition

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – Four West Texas A&M softball players earned All-Region recognition as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association on Wednesday. Of the four, three players earned first team honors while one earned second team.
 
Kyra Lair, Brittni Rufus, and Ruby Salzman represented WT on the first team. Lair earns the accolade for the first time in her career while Rufus, a 2022 Second Team All-Region member, picks up first team for the first time. Salzman earns a spot on the first team for the third consecutive season. In the circle, Lair has pitched her way to a 17-2 record with four saves. She leads the team with 127 strikeouts in 124.2 innings pitched for a 1.91 ERA. Rufus and Salzman have paired up to be one of the most potent outfields in all of Division II. The Lady Buffs duo rank first and second on the team in batting average and have combined for 31 steals in 35 attempts. Salzman leads the team with 19 home runs while Rufus leads the team with six triples.
 
Emilee Boyer, the 2023 Lone Star Conference Freshman of the Year, earned a spot on the second team after a standout season in the circle and in the batter's box. The Harrisburg, S.D. native holds a 2.11 ERA with 88 strikeouts over 96 innings pitched. At the plate, Boyer is hitting .308 batting average with six doubles, 14 home runs, and 50 RBIs.
 
WT starts the NCAA Tournament on Thursday when the Lady Buffs take on Cameron at 2:30 p.m. at Schaeffer Park.
