Buff Basketball Adds Local Product Kemper Jones

CANYON, Texas – West Texas A&M men's basketball coach Tom Brown announced the signing of local product, Kemper Jones. Jones stays in the Texas Panhandle after a standout career at nearby Canyon High School.

"Kemper has been a cornerstone of our program here at Canyon High for the past 4 years.  He's been a starter since his freshman year and has been an integral piece to our success" said Canyon High head coach Travis Schulte "It's been awesome having a front row seat to watch his development as a player and as an outstanding young man, and now we're blessed that we get to continue seeing him grow right here in our backyard!"

Under the direction of head coach Travis Shulte, Jones helped the Eagles to back-to-back Texas 4A Region I Final appearances. During his senior year, the 6-foot-6 wing garnered multiple accolades including Texas Association of Basketball Coaches (TABC) All-State, TABC All-Star, and TABC All-Region. In addition to the TABC honors, the District 4-4A Co-MVP was named the Gene Messer Tournament MVP and honored as a member of the Texas High School Coaches Association Academic All-State and Super Elite teams. Over his junior and senior years at Canyon High, Jones helped the Eagles to a 60-9 record in which the Eagles won 34 straight district contests. Maybe the biggest accolade of Kemper's career came just recently at the
2023 Golden Spread All-Star Game as he picked up MVP Honors!

"Kemper is a very versatile player that can shoot it. He is a very good shooter and someone that can play a few different positions on the court.  Kemper's size and skill set really let him be able to play at the college level. We have been able to watch Kemper develop at our summer camps the past few seasons. He really made an impression at camp. Kemper is someone that can really make an impact at WT as he continues to develop." – Coach Tom Brown

WT comes off a 27-7 campaign in 2023 making another NCAA Sweet 16 appearance. The Buffs also won the LSC West Divisional Title, the LSC Regular Season Title, and their sixth-consecutive Lone Star Conference Tournament Title!!
