CANYON, TX āĀ West Texas A&M competed in 36 women's events and 37 men's events at today's WT Spring Break Open. Across the competition, WT had 28 top three finishes and 13 first-place finishes. There were nine student-athletes who hit NCAA Division II provisional marks.Ā Ā
PROVISIONAL MARKSĀ
Provisional marks are times, distances or jumps that have a good chance of qualifying for the NCAA Division II Outdoor Nationals.Ā
Daniela Pesic was one of the first competitors of the day and hit her provisional mark in the long jump with a distance of 6.05m.Ā Ā
Laiten Greeson ran the 100m hurdles in a time of 14.10, earning provisional. She also placed second in the high jump with a jump of 1.53m.Ā Ā
Luke Holcombe just returned from the NCAA Division II Indoor Nationals, where he threw in shot put, also competed today, and hit his provisional in shot put with a distance of 17.30.Ā
The men's 4X100 hit provisional as a team with a time of 39.85. The team started off the block with Desmond Aryee, followed by Jerry Jakpa, with Jalen Purcell and closed out by Quinton Sansing. Japka claimed provisional in the 100m as well with a time of 10.47.Ā Ā
WT RECORD BOOKĀ
Betty Bajika already bested her time from last year's 5000m race and etched her name into the top ten record book for WT. She ran for first place with a mark of 17:24.66 with freshman, Lexi Maul, right on her tail finishing second with a time of 17:35.81.Ā
Luke Holcombe broke into the top three in the record books in shot put with his distance of 17.30m. He is the first shot put outdoor athlete to break into the top ten since 2016.Ā
Ray Dixon claimed a third spot on the top ten best in the hammer throw with a distance of 54.34m.Ā Ā Ā
Quinton Sansing also hit provisional in the 400m with a time of 46.56 and tied his ninth best performance in the record books.Ā Ā

West Texas A&M will compete at the Masked Rider Open on March 24-25 at the Fuller Track and Field Complex at Texas Tech University in Lubbock, Texas.Ā
