Women's Cross Country Places Ninth at NCAA South Central Regional

Nov. 4, 2006 WARRENSBURG, Mo. - The West Texas A&M women's and men's cross country teams competed on Saturday in the NCAA-II South Central Regional in Warrensburg, Mo., on Saturday with the Lady Buffs posting a ninth place finish out of 19 teams in the 6k event. For the fourth consecutive race, the WTAMU women were paced by junior Jisel Bailon, who clocked a run of 23:28.60 to finish in 38th place overall. In the next heat of runners to cross the finish line was a pair of Lady Buffs, senior Ruby Crox and freshman Kristie Hartsfield. Crox registered a 60th place finish with a time of 24:12.50 while Hartsfield was just behind in 61st at 24:12.90. Sophomore Belinda Castanon and senior Amy Garcia posted 69th and 70th place finishes, respectively, with runs of 24:30.00 and 24:31.20 Rounding out the WTAMU contingency at the event was junior Bridget Garza, who finished in104th place, and freshman Sierra Manning ended her run in 108th. Abilene Christian had an impressive day, as the Wildcats represented the Lone Star Conference well, winning both the men's and women's team titles. The ACU women took top honors with a total team time of 1:53:48 and an average finish of 22:45.64 in the 6K race. On the men's side, which was a 10K event, ACU won the race by recording a total team time of 2:00:55.30 and an average finish of 24:11.04. The WTAMU men's squad only brought two runners to the event and thus did not record a team placing in the 10k run. Sophomore Jose Velasquez recorded a 72nd place finish with a run of 35:28.80 while junior Tyson McGuire finished in 97th place after clocking a time of 38:26.60.
