West Texas A&M Cross Country Heads for Regionals
Nov. 2, 2006 CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M Women's Cross Country team will travel to Warrensburg, Mo., to compete in the South Central Regional race on Saturday, Nov. 4. The team finished fourth at the Lone Star Conference Championship on Oct. 21 to advance to the Regional tournament. The Lady Buffs are led by junior Jisel Bailon who finished 17th at the LSC Championships with a time of 23:25 and has paced the harriers throughout the 2006 season, finishing first at the Angelo State Blue and Gold Classic on Oct. 10 and second at the Tarleton Invitational on Sept. 23. Also fronting the Lady Buffs' efforts are freshman Kristie Hartsfield who crossed the line first at the Tarleton Invitational and senior Ruby Crox who placed 18th at the LSC Championship, only a second behind Bailon. "We are very excited about the opportunity to even the score with Angelo and Central Oklahoma," said coach Kimberly Dudley. "This group of ladies have worked extremely hard this season and I hope this is a big pay day for them." The men's cross country team will send junior Tyson McGuire and sophomore Jose Velasquez, both of whom have run consistently well over the course of the season, to Warrensburg to compete in the 10k run. The men's race will begin at 10 a.m., while the women's course will cover 6k with the starting gun at 11:15 a.m.
