CANYON, Texas - West Texas A&M cross country runner Jeniffer Cherono (Junior, Iten, Kenya) has been named Lone Star Conference Female Runner of the Week for the week of Oct. 2, the league announced Thursday.

Cherono took first-place individual honors at last weekend's Incarnate Word Cardinal Invitational. She clocked a time of 22:26.4 over five kilometers, beating runner-up Marlene Gutierrez of Texas A&M-International by 46 seconds. This was Cherono's second collegiate meet; she placed third overall in her first outing.

This marks her second such honor of the season, as she earned Runner of the Week honors for the week of Sept. 11, as well.

The Lady Buffs' next competition will be Oct. 4 when they compete in the OSU Cowboy Jamboree, hosted by Oklahoma State University.
