Slippery Rock, Pa. – West Texas A&M junior Jeniffer Cherono recorded a 62nd-place finish at the NCAA Division II Cross Country Championships, held Saturday morning at the 6 kilometer Cooper’s Lake Campground Course in Slippery Rock, Pa.

With the meet held in ankle-deep snow and wintery, 25 degree conditions, Cherono (Iten, Kenya) recorded a time of 23:17.

“Jeniffer has had an outstanding season,” said WT head coach Kimberly Dudley. “And, she ran well today. But the conditions were something she isn’t familiar with. Still, she has had a great season, qualified for the national championship and ran competitively.”

Jessica Pixler of Seattle Pacific took first-place individual honors with a time of 20:59. Shippensburg’s Neely Spence (21:27) was second and Colorado-Colorado Springs’ Shannon Payne with a time of 21:29.

Adams State won the women’s team title, with 79 points. Grand Valley State was second (102 points) and Western State finished third, with 183 points.
