CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M Lady Buff cross country team tallied 58 total points to take fifth place at the 2009 Lone Star Conference Cross Country Championships, hosted by WTAMU Saturday morning at the WTAMU Horse Center in Canyon, Texas.

Top individual honors went to Midwestern State's Sydney Cole, who covered the 6,000-meter course in 23:02.5. She was followed by second-place finisher, Texas A&M-Kingsville's Erica Avarado (23:36.9) and WT's Aries Bazaldua (Fr., Canyon, Texas), who placed third, overall, with a time of 23:46.4.

In earning the third place finish, Bazaldua earned LSC Freshman of the Year honors.

Midwestern State took top team honors with 70 points, followed by Angelo State (73), East Central (92), Central Oklahoma (111) and WT (123) rounding out the top five.

Eddah Toroitich (Soph., Iten, Kenya) was the Lady Buffs' number-two running, finishing 16th with a time of 25:00.5, followed by Allie Reyna (Soph., Ralls, Texas), with a time of 25:20.4 and a 21st place finish. Jessica Blakeley (Fr., Hereford, Texas) placed 34th with a time of 25:46.5, followed by Nicole Hudgens (Fr., Kaufman, Texas) with a 26:27.0 to place in 49th, Allison Medina, (Fr., Hereford, Texas) was 56th with a time of 27:11.7, while Brieana Garcia (Fr., Canyon, Texas) finished in 58th with a time of 27:21.1 to round out the Lady Buff field.


 

 

The Lady Buffs next outing will be at the NCAA South Central Regionals, held Saturday, November 7 in Abilene, Texas.
