San Angelo, Texas – For the third time this season, West Texas A&M junior Jeniffer Cherono (junior, Iten, Kenya), took first-place honors, this time winning the Angelo State Blue & Gold Classic, held Tuesday afternoon at the San Angelo Regional Airport.

Cherono, winning an event for the third consecutive week, clocked a time of 19:04.00 over the 5 kilometer course. She has now earned three victories and a third place finish in her four competitions this season. She outpaced runner-up Glady Chumba (19:44.00) of South Plains College by 38 seconds.

In doing so, Cherono helped lead the Lady Buffs to a first-place finish out of a seven team field, as well. WT totaled 60 points to take top honors, followed by second-place South Plains College (64 pts.) and host Angelo State in third with 72 points. Following Cherono for the Lady Buffs were Kristie Hartsfield (junior, Perryton, Texas), eighth, 20:35.00; Belinda Castanon (senior, El Paso, Texas), 11th, 20:50.00; Becca Rapstine (sophomore, White Deer, Texas), 15th, 21:24.00; and Tara Shields (freshman, Spearman, Texas), 25th, 23:28.00.

The Lady Buffs will now look forward to the Lone Star Conference Championships, hosted by Texas A&M-Kingsville, on Saturday, Oct. 25, in Kingsville, Texas.
