Lady Buff Cross Country Claims Second at ASU Blue & Gold Classic

SAN ANGELO, Texas - Both West Texas A&M cross country teams were in action at the ASU Blue & Gold Classic in San Angleo, Texas, this week and the Lady Buffs posted their highest finish of the season by ending the race in second place as a team. Senior Jisel Bailon, competing for only the second race this season, was the highest finisher for WTAMU on the women's side by completing the course in 20:27 to place fifth. Fellow senior Mariana Chavira notched her first top ten finish of the year, ending the race in ninth place after a run of 20:53. Freshman Becca Rapstine finished in 12th place while Delinda Hill and Sharen Diggs earned 17th and 18th place finishes, respectively. Freshman Chelsi Ruiz rounded out the Lady Buffs runners in 21st place overall. On the men's side, the Buffs had three runners compete, led by freshman Thomas Harris who placed in 17th place after a time of 29:04. Sophomore Jose Huerta finished in 19th place and freshman Isai Saucedo ended the event in 23rd place. Both teams are back in action on Oct. 20, when they race in the LSC Championships hosted by Texas A&M-Commerce.
