The West Texas A&M women's cross country team finished first with 33 points Tuesday evening at the Angelo State Blue and Gold Classic, while the men's team ran four runners and as a result did not qualify for a team finish.

Junior Jisel Bailon crossed the line first for the Lady Buffs in third place at 20:22, just 35 seconds behind the first place finisher from Krista McIntyre from Angelo State, at 19:47. Following Bailon was senior Ruby Crox, who finished her run at 20:24, which was good for a fourth place finish.

The final four runners for WTAMU all finished in the top 20, starting with freshman Kristie Hartsfield, who was seventh. Senior Amy Garcia and sophomore Belinda Caston were 10th and 12th respectively after crossing the finish line in 21:00 and 21:07.

Rounding out the other Lady Buff runners were junior Bridget Garza and freshman Sierra Manning, who ended their runs in 14th and 16th place.

The top runner for the Buffaloes was sophomore Jose Velazquez, who paced all WTAMU runners with a fourth place finish in a time of 28:05. Freshman Jase Patrick was 25th, while sophomore Joey Sanchez ended his day in 27th place.

The final finisher for the WTAMU men was junior Tyson McGuire, crossing the line in 33rd with a time of 34:03

The next event for both squads will be at the Lone Star Conference Championships on Oct. 21 in Stephenville, Texas.
