The West Texas A&M University cross country teams were in Las Vegas, N.M. Saturday, September 25th for the 2004 Cowboy Jamboree hosted by New Mexico Highlands University. The women's team placed fifth of nine teams in the five kilometer race, while the men finished eighth of eight teams in the eight kilometer run.

Freshman Jisel Bailon continued her outstanding season, taking fifth-place out of 67 opponents in a time of 21:14. She was followed by fellow freshman Sharen Diggs whose 23:22 earned her the 23rd position and freshman Sara McCombs placed 33rd with a time of 24:14.

The men's team was paced by senior Lito Belmontes, who finished 34th out of 64 runners with a time of 30:29. Freshman Zach Valdez placed 44th in 31:40 and classmate Ivan Alvarez completed his run in 52nd place with a final of 33:01.

The cross country teams will be on the road again this weekend, competing in the Oklahoma State Cowboy Jamboree at Stillwater, Okla. on Saturday, October 2nd. The men will race at 8 a.m. followed by the women's run at 9:10 a.m.
