Final Stats

ABILENE, Texas - The West Texas A&M University women's cross country team finished third out of seven teams at the Abilene Christian University Classic Friday evening at Sherrod Park at Abilene, Texas. The Lady Buffs had three runners in the top 17 places, led by senior Stephanie Williams in ninth.

Williams was followed by juniors Amy Garcia and Ruby Crox in 16th and 17, respectively, while sophomore Sharen Diggs was 26th. Freshman Belinda Castanon was 31st, while fellow freshman Nicole Lopez was 39th. Sophomore Shemika Sanford and freshman Kallie Gerstberger were 43rd and 44th, respectively.

WTAMU compiled 80 points, finishing behind host ACU, which had 34 points, garnering the top two finishes, as Sally Kipyegs was the individual winner. Angelo State University was second with 52 points, followed by WTAMU, then Tarleton State University in fourth with 102 points, Wayland Baptist University in fifth with 103 points, Southwestern Oklahoma State University in sixth with 125 points, and Texas A&M University-Kingsville rounded out the field in seventh with 177 points.

The Lady Buffs will have a week off between races, competing again on Saturday, September 24 at the New Mexico Highlands Invitational. Race time is 10:30 a.m.
