WTAMU Runners Both Finish Sixth At ACU Classic

The West Texas A&M University men's and women's cross country teams both finished sixth at the Abilene Christian University Classic Friday at Abilene, Texas. Freshman Jisel Bailon led the Lady Buffs, finishing in 17th-place with a time of 21:23.6 in the three mile run, as WTAMU collected 145 points. Host ACU took top honors with 41 points, led by Addeh Mwamba's first-place time of 17:56.3. On the men's side, senior Lito Belmonetes led the WTAMU men, placing 22nd with a time of 23:24.85 over the four mile course, helping the Buffs to 147 points. Host ACU also took top honors in the men's points, with 36 points, taking the top four places, led by Bernard Manirakiza's 20:13.3 time. The WTAMU women return to Abilene, next Saturday, Sept. 18, to compete in the McMurry University Invitational, while the men won't run again until Saturday, Sept. 25 at the New Mexico Highlands University Invitational at Las Vegas, N.M. -WT-
