Wichita Falls, Texas – Competing in their first meet of the 2009 season, the West Texas A&M Women’s Cross Country team received strong performances by a pair of freshmen at the Midwestern State Mustang Cross Country Stampede, which took place on Thursday, September 3, at Burkburnett High School in Wichita Falls, Texas.

WT totaled 124 points to take fifth-place in the team standings. Friends University took top honors with a total of 46 points followed by Midwestern State (67 points), East Central (73 points) and Lubbock Christian (93 points).

Leading the Lady Buffs was true freshman, Aries Bazaldua of Canyon, Texas, turning in a time of 15:52 for a third place overall finish in the 4K run. Freshman Nicole Hudgens (Kaufman, Texas) also finished in the top ten, placing ninth with the time of 16:08. Allison Medina (Fr., Hereford, Texas) and Eddah Toroitch (So., Iten, Kenya) were the next pair of WT runners to cross the finish line in 33rd and 39th place, respectively, with times of 17:02 and 17:34.

Also for the Lady Buffs, freshmen Brieana Garcia (Canyon, Texas) finished 40th with the time of 17:38 and Brooke Selby (Wichita Falls, Texas) placed 43rd with the time of 17:45.

Midwestern State’s Sydnee Cole won the meet with a time 15:23 followed by Jordan Arnold of Friends University with a time of 15:38.

Both the Lady Buffs and the Buffs will host the Buffalo Stampede, on September 12th, 2009, at the WTAMU Horse Center, located just south of Kimbrough Memorial Stadium in Canyon, Texas.
