The West Texas A&M University volleyball team had three members earn Lone Star Conference South Division postseason awards announced Monday (Nov. 15).

Freshman setter Erin Houlihan and sophomore middle blocker Megan Spivey were tabbed as second-team selections, while sophomore outside hitter Rachel Altman was named to the honorable mention list.

Houlihan, a native of Lincoln, Neb., set a WTAMU single-season record with 1,625 assists (12.80 apg), which was second in the LSC and 19th in the NCAA-II. She also led the Lady Buffs with 35 service aces, as well as adding 330 digs (2.60 dpg). Houlihan was LSC South Setter of the Week three times this season.

Spivey, a Keller, Texas, native, led WTAMU with 111 blocks (0.89 bpg), ranking seventh in the conference statistics. She also added 337 kills (2.70 kpg), ranking second on the team, on a .203 attack percentage.

Altman, a native of Dallas, Texas, was third on the team with 317 kills (2.60 kpg), hitting .185. She added 327 digs (2.68 dpg) and 56 blocks (0.46 bpg). Altman was also named to the All-Tournament Team at the Grand Valley State Tournament in September.

Amanda Slate from Abilene Christian University was named LSC South Player of the Year. ACU won the LSC Tournament Saturday, marking the first time since 1998 that someone other than WTAMU wore the conference crown. Texas A&M University-Kingsville's Shaday Smith was tabbed as Freshman of the Year. Shelby Pitcock from Angelo State University collected Libero of the Year honors, while Angelo State's legendary coach Kathleen Brasfield was chosen by her peers as the Coach of the Year.

WTAMU finished the season with a 19-15 ledger overall, and 2-7 in the LSC South. It was the first time since 1994 that the Lady Buffs did not reach the 20-win plateau. It was also the first time ever in school history that WTAMU did not qualify for the LSC Tournament and the first time since 1993 that the Lady Buffs will not be competing in the NCAA-II Tournament. WTAMU loses two seniors with the conclusion of the season, but will return six starters from this year's line-up.
