CANYON, Texas - A total of 54 Lone Star Conference volleyball student-athletes were recognized for their academic achievements when the league's annual academic awards were announced Wednesday evening during a banquet at the LSC Championship.

Texas Woman's and West Texas A&M each had four players named to the All-Academic Team, which honors both academic and athletics achievement.

The Pioneers Jessica Crow was selected as LSC Academic Player of the Year. The junior setter is an interdisciplinary studies major with a 3.92 cumulative grade point average. Despite missing seven matches this season because of injury, Crow is leading the Pioneers with 712 assists and 8.48 assists per set.

The All-Academic Team is selected by the league's sports information directors, who vote on the basis of both academic and athletic achievement. To be eligible for LSC academic honors, student-athletes need at least a 3.20 grade point average and must be at least a sophomore. All academically qualified student-athletes not selected for the All-Academic Team are then named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll.

On the All-Academic Team with TWU's Crow were her teammates Kandis Schroeder, Sharon Schaffner and Kendra Coulsen, WTAMU's Katie Rickwartz, Lauren Thedford, Ashley Dyer and Natalie Johnson, plus Texas A&M-Kingsville's Kristin Chancellor, Angelo State's Kimber Duncan, Southeastern Oklahoma's Destiny Brown, Abilene Christian's Shawna Hines, Eastern New Mexico's Heidi Geyer and Midwestern State's Allison Schreiber.
