Three Lady Buffs Earn Daktronics All-Southwest Region Honors

CANYON, Texas - After dominating the Lone Star Conference awards, winning the conference championship and advancing to the NCAA playoffs, three Lady Buffs have been honored as Division II All-Southwest Region selections by Daktronics as sophomores Laura Prinsen and Katie Rickwartz have been named to the first team and junior Sara Contreras has been named to the second team.

All three Daktronics honorees also earned Lone Star Conference recognition earlier in the season. Prinsen was named Offensive Player of the Year, Rickwartz was named Co-Setter of the Year and Contreras joined them as they all earned first team All-LSC status.

Prinsen, a native of Spring, Texas, leads WTAMU in both kills (517) and kills per game (3.95). She also is second in total blocks (77), third in digs (353) and third in assists (89). Additionally, Prinsen is tied with Rickwartz for service aces as they both notched 48 this season.

Rickwartz has had a break-out season in 2007 after playing behind All-American Libby Garza during her freshman campaign. The Canyon, Texas, native is the team leader in assists with 1635, and assists per game with 12.87, in addition to being second on the squad in digs with 355. Rickwartz also has 104 kills and 54 total blocks.

A local product from Amarillo, Texas, Contreras has been solid for the Lady Buffs' defense as she collected a team-high 752 digs for an average of 5.83 per game. She also has 62 assists on the season.

West Texas A&M travels to Kearney, Neb. this weekend in the opening round of NCAA Regionals, where the Lady Buffs will face conference foe Midwestern State on Nov. 17 at 2:30 p.m.
