Cameron And Texas Woman's Advance In LSC Tournament

Cameron University and Texas Woman's University won their quarterfinal matches at the Lone Star Conference Volleyball Tournament Thursday, hosted by West Texas A&M University at The Box.

CU defeated Abilene Christian in five-games (30-16, 29-31, 28-30, 30-26, 15-10). The Aggies were led by Kelsey Kosick, who tallied 20 kills, and had four service aces, as CU improved to 21-11. Taran Turner added 15 kills, followed by Morgan Meyer with 14 kills and Tayler Turner with 10 kills. Vicki Ibarra dished out 58 assists and Jenny Head posted a match-high 29 digs.

With the win, the Aggies improve to 5-1 in five-game matches, with the lone loss coming at the hands of West Texas A&M on Sept. 27 at the LSC Crossover Tournament. CU, the No. 3 seed from the LSC North Division, will face LSC-North No. 1 seed Central Oklahoma in Friday's first semifinal match at 5 p.m.

ACU, the second seed from the LSC South, ends its season at 25-11. The Wildcats were led by Michelle Bernhardt's match-high 24 kills, while teammates Amanda Slate and Haylee Hartline added 15 kills apiece.

Lindsey Martin tallied a match-high 61 assists, while Kellen Morrow posted a team-high 25 digs.

In Thursday's late match, Texas Woman's, the No. 2 seed from the North, eliminated Eastern New Mexico, the South No. 3 seed, in four games (30-25, 30-26, 25-30, 30-26). TWU improves to 16-18 overall, and advances to Friday's second semifinal against host and the South's No. 1 seed West Texas A&M. TWU has made an amazing run, as they opened the season 2-15, then reeled off 12-straight victories before losing their last two division matches

Thursday night, the Pioneers were led by Jenny Madrid's 19 kills, while Heather Smith came off the bench to log 10 kills. Carley Messmer had team-highs with 40 assists and 19 digs.

ENMU was led by Anna Bellum's match-high 24 kills, while teammate Emilie Rodman logged 18 kills. Jennifer Bullock doled out 50 assists for the Zias, who end their season at 16-15. Grace George had a match-high nine blocks, while Jennifer Luttrell added seven blocks.
