Junior Libero Brittani Bell and freshman setter Erin Houlihan were named Lone Star Conference South Division Players of the Week, announced today (Oct. 12) by the conference office, for their efforts in leading WTAMU to a perfect 4-0 effort in the BritKare Lady Buff Challenge Friday and Saturday at The Box and the WTAMU Event Center.

Bell, a 5-3 junior Libero from Amarillo, Texas, compiled a weekend total of 74 digs (6.17 dpg) in WTAMU's four matches at the BritKare Lady Buff Challenge. In addition to her 6.17 dpg, Bell tallied three assists and eight attacks with one kill. Bell had a weekend-high 21 digs in WTAMU's toughest match of the weekend, the victory over St. Mary's University.

She is a graduate of Tascosa High School.

Freshman setter Erin Houlihan was named LSC South Setter of the Week for the third time this season.


Houlihan, a 5-8 freshman setter from Lincoln, Neb., racked up 165 assists (13.75 apg) in WTAMU's four matches this weekend. This now pushes Houlihan over the 1, 000 assist mark for the season with 1,050 (12.35 apg). In addition to her assists, Houlihan recorded five kills on 15 attacks, a team-high eight service aces, 29 digs (2.42 dpg) and one block. Houlihan recorded a weekend-high 49 assists against Wayland Baptist University and 44 in WTAMU's win over St. Mary's University.

Houlihan is a graduate of Pius X High School.

WTAMU is 15-9 overall on the year, 0-2 in LSC South play, entering Tuesday night's match against border-rival Eastern New Mexico University. The Lady Buffs continue their homestand facing two more LSC opponents this week. WTAMU will host Tarleton State at the Event Center Thursday night at 9:30 p.m. as part of WTAMU Basketball Midnight Madness festivities. WTAMU will wrap up the weekend with a 1 p.m. match Saturday against Texas A&M-Kingsville.
