Former WTAMU Volleyball Assistant Coach Doing Well At Boise State

Sept. 30, 2004

Former West Texas A&M University assistant volleyball coach Scott Sandel has the Boise State University Broncos off to a good start in 2004 prior to tonight's match at home against Rice University. BSU is 13-2 and 2-0 in Western Athletic Conference play. Sandel, now in his third year as head coach, suffered through a 7-47 record his first two years.

Sandel, a 1995 graduate of WTAMU with a degree in general studies, was an assistant two separate times at WTAMU (1987-1990 under Head Coach Kim Hudson and 1994-1995 under Head Coach Debbie Hendricks). He was part of the NCAA National Championship team in 1990 and the teams during his six years as an assistant were 176-44.

He also served as assistant to Hudson at Northern Arizona University and the University of South Carolina. In 2000 and 2001 he was the head coach at Northern Michigan University, where he compiled a 40-22 record in two seasons and led the Wildcats to two straight NCAA appearances.

One of his players is sophomore outside hitter Jackie Stroud, who is the younger sister of former Lady Buff All-American Shannon Stroud, now the head volleyball coach at Pampa, Texas, High School.
