West Texas A&M University head volleyball coach Tony Graystone announced today (April 20), that he has added the fifth member of the 2005 recruiting class, signing area junior college player Jacqualin Doss.

Doss, a 5-10 outside hitter, is a Dumas, Texas native, and joins WTAMU from Frank Phillips College, where she played for head coach Cara (Little) Adams, an Amarillo, Texas native and former Lady Buff volleyball player in 1996-97. She was a first-team NJCAA Division I Volleyball All-American, and was named to the NJCAA All-Tournament Team as Frank Phillips finished sixth at the NJCAA Championship Tournament. Doss also was the 2004 Western Junior College Athletic Conference Player of the Year, after leading Frank Phillips to a 21-10 overall record and 7-1 WJCAC mark, sharing the conference crown with Midland College. Doss led the Lady Plainsmen to the Region V West championship, earning first-team All-Region V West accolades. Doss will have two years of eligibility for the Lady Buffs.

"Last fall was Jacqualin's first full season as an outside hitter, and she finished third in the nation in kills per game," Graystone said. "Jacqualin really likes to take a big swing and she knows how to finish a play. She will give us two things we really didn't have last year: consistent offense from the outside and an aggressive, confident court presence."

Doss is the fifth member of the 2005 recruiting class, and the lone junior college signee, as the other four are high school players, joining Alyssa Bromwell from Pampa, Texas (Pampa High School), Bailey Brown from Lubbock, Texas (Coranado High School), Sara Contreras from Amarillo, Texas (Amarillo High School) and Kelly Culley from Scottsdale, Ariz. (Horizon High School).

WTAMU finished the season with a 19-16 ledger overall, and 3-7 in the LSC South. It was the first time since 1994 that the Lady Buffs did not reach the 20-win plateau. It was also the first time ever in school history that WTAMU did not qualify for the LSC Tournament and the first time since 1993 that the Lady Buffs will not be competing in the NCAA-II Tournament. WTAMU lost two seniors from last season, but will return six starters from this year's line-up.
