West Texas A&M University head volleyball coach Tony Graystone has announced the first two signings of the 2005 recruiting class, as the Lady Buffs inked a pair of local talents to boost their defense.

Alyssa Bromwell from Pampa, Texas and Bailey Brown from Lubbock, Texas are both defensive specialists, while Brown will split time at outside hitter.

Bromwell is a 5-6 defensive specialist, who will join the Lady Buffs from Pampa High School, where she was coached by former Lady Buff volleyball standout Shannon Stroud. Brown, a 5-8 defensive specialist/outside hitter comes to WTAMU from Lubbock Coranado High School, where she helped lead the Lady Mustangs to a Texas 5A State Runner-Up finish.

"Alyssa is a very good athlete that has played almost every position while at Pampa. She also learned a lot about our defensive systems from her coach, former Lady Buff Shannon Stroud," Graystone said. "Alyssa has the potential to really help our ball control and defense, and will provide immediate depth for us."

"Bailey had a very successful high school career and was a big part of Coronado's 5A State runner-up team last year. Bailey played outside hitter in high school, and will continue to train at that position for us, but will probably make her biggest contribution as a defensive player," Graystone said.

WTAMU finished the season with a 19-16 ledger overall, and 3-7 in the LSC South. It was the first time since 1994 that the Lady Buffs did not reach the 20-win plateau. It was also the first time ever in school history that WTAMU did not qualify for the LSC Tournament and the first time since 1993 that the Lady Buffs will not be competing in the NCAA-II Tournament. WTAMU lost two seniors from last season, but will return six starters from this year's line-up.
