EMPORIA, Kans. – The West Texas A&M Lady Buffs ended their season earlier than they hoped, as they lost the semifinal match against #5-ranked Emporia State in three sets with scores of 26-28, 17-25, and 29-31. WT finishes the season with an overall record of 34-5.

“Emporia played really well tonight,” said head coach Tony Graystone. “They came up with the points they needed and we gave them too many chances to finish.”

Three players reached double-digit scoring, led by Laura Prinsen (junior, rightside hitter, Spring, Texas) with 12, followed by Melissa Harper (junior, middle blocker, Peoria, Ariz.) and Natalie Johnson (junior, outside hitter, Cortez, Colo.) each tallying 11 kills.

Sara Contreras (senior, libero, Amarillo, Texas) ended the night with 10 digs and recorded a career total of 2,248 over her four seasons with the Lady Buffs. Alyssa Bromwell (senior, defensive specialist, Pampa, Texas) recorded five digs and one service ace against the Hornets. as she closed out her career.

“I’ve enjoyed coaching our seniors over the last four years,” Graystone said. “I’m proud of what they’ve accomplished. I think we’ve won more than 130 matches during their four years. They will be remembered as winners.”

The Lady Buffs finished their season with an impressive overall record of 34-5. They recorded a perfect 15-0 record at the Box and finished undefeated in the Lone Star Conference (13-0), holding onto the LSC title for a third-consecutive season.
