Nov. 14, 2008
CANYON, Texas - The #3-ranked Lady Buffs (32-4) swept Texas Woman's in the semifinal round of the Lone Star Conference tournament in Canyon, Texas in three sets with scores of 25-22, 25-12, and 25-15. WT now advances to the championship match to defend their title against #3-seed Abilene Christian. "TWU played well in the first set and really pushed us," said head coach Tony Graystone. "We settled into our rhythm in the second set and executed the game plan just about perfectly." Laura Prinsen (junior, rightside hitter, Spring, Texas) led the team in kills, putting down 13 kills in 27 attempts for a hitting percentage of .370. She also contributed two service aces, seven digs and one block assists. Melissa Harper (junior, middle blocker, Peoria, Ariz.) tallied 10 kills in 18 attempts for a hitting percentage of .444, and also recorded four block assists and one solo block. Katie Rickwartz (junior, setter, Canyon, Texas) recorded 38 assists, four digs, and one block assists and led the team to a hitting percentage of .303. "Laura and Melissa were teriffic tonight," Graystone said. "It's good to see Laura score even when the defense knows she's getting the ball. She was often facing a double block and beat it anyway." The Lady Buffs take on Abilene Christian for the LSC Championship title. WT has won the last two consecutive titles. The match is set for 7:00 p.m. CST and will take place at the Box in Canyon, Texas.
