Lady Buffs To Face Abilene Christian in LSC Tournament Championship

CANYON, Texas – The #6-ranked West Texas A&M Lady Buffs beat Texas A&M-Commerce to move to the LSC Tournament Championship finals against Abilene Christian on Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7:00 p.m. The set scores against the Lions were 25-15, 25-11, and 25-14. The win lifts the Lady Buffs to 33-3 overall, while Commerce ends their season with a 25-10 record. “This is the second match that we have played as a solid and efficient team,” said head coach Jason Skoch. “We are mentally and physically ready for tomorrow.” Melissa Harper (Sr., MB, Peoria, Ariz.) led the team in kills with 12 and a hitting percentage of .667, followed by Laura Prinsen (Sr., RS, Spring, Texas) with eight and a .412 hitting clip. Natalie Johnson (Sr., OH, Cortez, Colo.) and Lauren Purdy (So., MB, Arlington, Texas) added seven kills each to the Lady Buffs’ 41 total kills. At the setter position, Katie Rickwartz (Sr., Canyon, Texas) tallied 31 assists and led the team to a .374 hitting percentage. She also had two setter dump kills, eight digs, and a block assist.
The team recorded six blocks, led by Harper with three block assists and a solo block. Prinsen, Purdy, and Lauren Thedford (Jr., OH/DS, Carrollton, Texas) each added two block assists. Lauren Beville (Fr., L, Hereford, Texas) led the team in digs with 12, followed by Thedford with 11. Last season saw ACU and WT in a five-set back and forth battle for the Lone Star Conference Championship with the Lady Buffs coming out on top. The finals are set for Saturday, Nov. 14, at 7:00 p.m. in The Box in Canyon, Texas.
