Lady Buffs Clinch First Place in the Lone Star Conference Regular Season

Final Stats

CANYON, Texas – The #5-ranked West Texas A&M Lady Buffs finished the regular season with their 13th win in the Lone Star Conference this season to take first place in the LSC. The win seals the bid for West Texas A&M to host the Lone Star Conference Championship tournament.

The win lifts the Lady Buffs to 31-3 overall while Eastern New Mexico finishes their season with an overall 6-23 and 0-13 in the LSC.

The first set saw WT hold ENMU to a negative hitting percentage while the Lady Buffs produced a .317 hitting percentage. WT continued their solid play throughout the match to finish with scores of 25-13, 25-14, and 25-18.

Melissa Harper (Sr., MB, Peoria, Ariz.) led the team in kills with 16 in 28 attempts for a .500 hitting percentage. Laura Prinsen (Sr., RS, Spring, Texas) followed with 11. Lauren Thedford (Jr., OH/DS, Carrollton, Texas) and Lauren Purdy (So., MB, Arlington, Texas) each recorded six kills, followed by Natalie Johnson (Sr., OH, Cortez, Colo.) five. Erin Dougherty (Fr., MB, Omaha, Neb.) entered the game playing a new position at outside hitter and produced three kills.


 

 

Katie Rickwartz (Sr., S, Canyon, Texas) tallied 44 assists and eight digs to go along with three kills and three block assists. Harper also recorded three assisted blocks.

Defensively, Thedford led the team in digs with 18, followed by Lauren Beville (Fr., L, Hereford, Texas) with 15. The Lady Buffs tallied two service aces by freshman at the service line from Beville and Kelsey Mangum (Fr., DS, San Antonio, Texas).

The Lady Buffs get a short break this weekend before entering postseason play. The Lone Star Conference tournament is set to take place on Thursday, Nov. 12 with the championship match on Saturday, Nov. 14. WT sealed the top seed, while the rest of the seeds will be determined by this weekend’s play.
