WTAMU Drops Four-Game Decision To TAMU-K Thursday
Nov. 4, 2004
The West Texas A&M University Lady Buff volleyball team was denied reaching the 20-win plateau for the first time since 1994 when WTAMU dropped a four-game decision to Texas A&M University-Kingsville, 3-1 (21-30, 30-25, 25-30, 28-30) Thursday night in a Lone Star Conference South Division match at Kingsville, Texas.
WTAMU, which was swept in the season series with TAMU-K for the first time ever, is now 18-16 overall with one match remaining, Saturday night at Tarleton State University. The Lady Buffs fall to 2-7 in the LSC South, and need to defeat Tarleton State in order to remain out of last place in the division.
TSU is 1-8 in division play after being swept by Eastern New Mexico University Thursday night. The Lady Buffs swept the TexAnns when they met earlier this season at Canyon, Texas, back on Oct. 14 and WTAMU has never lost to TSU, holding a 22-0 advantage.
The Lady Buffs were led by sophomore outside hitter Jessica Scherr's 22 kills on .308 attack percentage, while junior middle blocker Cynthia Carter had 10 kills with a .389 attack percentage, as WTAMU hit .165 for the match.
Freshman setter Erin Houlihan tied a match-high with 47 assists and matched teammate junior libero Brittani Bell for the team lead with 10 digs apiece.
TAMU-K was led by Shaday Smith's match-high 24 kills, followed by 14 kills from Tenesha Marsh and 13 kills by Kellie O'Leary.
WTAMU will take on Tarleton State on Saturday at 6 p.m. at Stephenville, Texas in the season-finale for both teams.
