#6-Ranked Lady Buffs Sweep Texas A&M-Kingsville

KINGSVILLE, Texas – The #6-ranked West Texas A&M Lady Buffs ended their tour of south Texas with a three-set defeat of Texas A&M-Kingsville with set scores of 25-21, 25-14, and 25-18. The win lifts WT to 29-3 overall and an undefeated 12-0 in the Lone Star Conference, while the Javelinas fall to 17-10 and 6-5 in the LSC. Leading the Lady Buffs offensive stand was Melissa Harper (Sr., MB, Peoria, Ariz.) with 16 kills and a match-high hitting percentage among hitters of .625. Laura Prinsen (Sr., RS, Spring, Texas) finished with 12 kills, followed by Natalie Johnson (Sr., OH, Cortez, Colo.) with 11 kills. Also contributing to WT’s offense was Stormi Lancaster (Fr., OH, Mobeetie, Texas) with eight kills, Kirsten McCowan (Fr., MB, Dallas, Texas) with five kills, and Katie Rickwartz (Sr., S, Canyon, Texas) with two setter dump kills. The Lady Buffs remained consistent throughout the match in offensive production, recorded hitting percentages of .324, .386, and .357 in the three sets for a match hitting percentage of .358. Rickwartz recorded 47 assists in the team’s offensive charge.
Lauren Beville (Fr., L, Hereford, Texas) led the team in digs with 14, followed by Prinsen with 11 for another double-double outing. Rickwartz also added another double-double with 10 digs added to her double-digit assists. The team registered four blocks, led by McCowan with three block assists, followed by Johnson with two block assists. McCowan also recorded the Lady Buffs’ only service ace of the match. The Lady Buffs prepare to finish regular season action this week, beginning on Wednesday, Nov. 4, in Plainview, Texas, taking on Wayland Baptist. The match is set to start at 7:00 p.m. WT returns home for the final regular season home and LSC match against Eastern New Mexico on Thursday, Nov. 5, at 7:00 p.m., in Canyon, Texas.
