The West Texas A&M University Lady Buff volleyball team was swept for the second time in as many matches, the latest Tuesday night at the hands of Eastern New Mexico University, 3-0 (18-30, 27-30, 27-30) at Portales, N.M.

The loss mathematically eliminates WTAMU from the Lone Star Conference Tournament for the first time since joining the LSC, as the Lady Buffs drop to 2-6 in the LSC South and 17-13 overall.

ENMU, which swept the season series with WTAMU for the first time ever, improves to 20-7 overall and 5-3 in the LSC South, remaining in third-place in the division. The top three teams in each division qualify for the LSC Tournament Nov. 11-13 at the North #1 seed.

While WTAMU did not have anyone in double-digit kills, a trio of Lady Buffs led the attack, as sophomore middle blocker Megan Spivey, sophomore outside hitter Jessica Scherr and redshirt-freshman outside hitter Courtney Barnes all had eight kills apiece. Junior middle blocker Cynthia Carter added six kills on a team-high .375 attack percentage to go with two blocks.

The Lady Buffs hit a paltry .095 for the match, including -.077 in game one.

Freshman setter Erin Houlihan dished out a match-high 37 assists, while Scherr and junior libero Brittani Bell tallied 15 digs each.

ENMU had a 8-4 team block advantage over WTAMU, as Lindsay Schiely led the Zias with four block assists. Anna Bellum posted a match-high 16 digs, while Kelly McGinty added 12 kills, while Margie Goble tallied 20 assists and McGinty had a team-high 14 digs.

 

 

The Lady Buffs take a break from LSC Division action when they face Harding University in neutral territory, at Dallas, Texas at Dallas Baptist University on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 2 p.m. After they play Harding, the Lady Buffs will turn around and play DBU at 6 p.m.

WTAMU wraps up the season with a road trip to San Antonio, Texas, to face St. Mary's University in a non-conference match on Wednesday, Nov. 3, at 7 p.m.

The Lady Buffs conclude the season with a pair of LSC South matches, beginning at Kingsville, Texas against Texas A&M University-Kingsville on Thursday, Nov. 4 at 7 p.m. WTAMU's regular-season finale is on Saturday, Nov. 6 at 6 p.m. at Stephenville, Texas against Tarleton State University.
