Lady Buffs Win Sixth-Straight With Win Over TAMU-Kingsville Saturday

KINGSVILLE, Texas - The West Texas A&M University volleyball team swept Texas A&M University-Kingsville, 33-31, 30-24, 31-29, on Saturday to conclude the weekend road trip. With the victory, the Lady Buffs improve to 23-6 overall, 5-1 in LSC, while TAMU-K is now 7-21, 1-5 in LSC.
With this latest victory, coach Tony Graystone ties former Lady Buff volleyball coach Debbie Hendricks' all-time winningest coach record at 159 wins. Hendricks coached at WTAMU from 1992-1998 and left with an all-time record of 159-47. Graystone has been coaching since 1999 and has tallied a record of 159-16.
The Lady Buffs started the match out slowly, having to take the first game into extra points before winning it 33-31.
WTAMU didn't make the same mistake in the second game. The Lady Buffs won that game easily by six points, 30-24. The Lady Buffs hit .324 in that game while TAMU-K only hit a dismal .089.
WTAMU's offensive attack was led by three freshmen. Middle blocker/outside hitter Ambra Clark led the charge with 14 kills. Outside hitter Lindsey Schaal followed with 12 kills and outside hitter Rachel Altman added 11 kills. Altman had a .500 hitting percentage, as the Lady Buffs hit .257 for the match.
Senior Kendra Morgan dished out a match-high 45 assists and added 10 digs. Fellow senior, Libero Kacie Hyatt tallied a match-high 26 digs.
The Javelinas had four players in double-digits for kills, led by Melanie Bifferstaff with 14 kills.
The Lady Buffs return to The Box for a four-match home stand begining Tuesday at 7 p.m. against Eastern New Mexico.
