No. 16 Lady Buff Volleyball Remains Perfect in LSC Play

CANYON, Texas - With the help of 29 combined kills between sophomore Natalie Johnson and Melissa Harper, the No. 16 West Texas A&M volleyball team picked up a 3-1 victory over Southwestern Oklahoma, improving to 24-7 on the season and an unblemished 9-0 Lone Star Conference mark. Johnson finished with 15 kills and two digs while Harper had 14 kills, four total blocks (two solo, two assisted) and three service aces. The score remained close in game one until Harper came up with a big kill to give WTAMU an 11-10 lead. The Lady Buffs never lost the lead and went on to win the first game 30-24. SWOSU jumped out to a 6-2 Bulldog lead in game two, but WTAMU tied it up at 10-10, then again at 20-20. The Bulldogs were able to regain the lead and hold on to take game two, 30-27. Game three saw the Lady Buffs hold off the Bulldog attack to win, 30-16, and take the momentum into the final game of the match. WTAMU took a 15-9 lead in game four and never looked back as the Lady Buffs went on to win the final game by a 30-21 margin. Sophomore setter Katie Rickwartz had a team-high 42 assists and 12 digs and freshman Teresa Dunn contributed with 17 assists. Junior libero Sara Contreras supplied the Lady Buffs with strong defensive play as she collected 20 digs on the day while Laura Prinsen also continued her solid efforts with 12 kills and 13 digs. WTAMU is on the road next week as the women face Panhandle State on Oct. 23, Midwestern State on Oct. 25 and Cameron on Oct. 27.
