Final Stats

The West Texas A&M University volleyball team did some cleaning over the weekend at The Box, as they swept through the Lady Buff Challenge, capped by Saturday's 3-0 (30-38, 30-27, 30-14) victory over Bellarmine.

WTAMU won their fourth-straight match overall and its 39th-straight match at The Box, and improve to 21-6 on the year.

Freshman outside hitter/middle blocker Ambra Clark led the Lady Buffs' barrage with 21 kills, on a whopping .633 hitting percentage.

Game one was tight, as it saw nine ties, the latest at 28-28. Clark made the game one score sheet look like a line from Ferris Bueller's Day Off: "Clark, Clark, Clark" as she recorded 11 kills in the game.

Clark and sophomore middle blocker Cynthia Carter teamed up to record a block to end the game, 30-28.

Clark finished with a match-high five blocks on the afternoon, leading WTAMU to nine and half team blocks, limiting Bellarmine to .185 hitting percentage.

Game two resembled the first one, as there were several lead changes and ties, before WTAMU took control with three-straight points, including two kills from freshman outside hitter Jessica Scherr, who finished the match with seven kills.

The Lady Buffs led 29-24 after Bellarmine sailed an attack out-of-bounds, ending a long rally that included several digs from senior libero Kacie Hyatt to keep the ball alive.

The Knights charged back to 29-27 and made the 418 fans in attendance a little ancy, before Carter ended the game with a kill at 30-27.

WTAMU opened a quick 10-6 lead in the third game, following a kill and an ace from freshman outside hitter Lindsey Schaal. Two-straight kills from Clark gave the Lady Buffs a 13-7 lead and two-consecutive back row kills from Schaal expanded the lead to 17-7.

A kill from junior outside hitter Jill Steininger made it 23-11, then Bellarmine tallied two points, before the Lady Buffs reeled off five-straight points to go up 28-13.

Schaal ended the game and the match at 30-14 on a kill that was originally ruled out, but after a conference of the officials, they ruled that it had been touched by a Bellarmine defender at the net and awarded the point to the Lady Buffs.

WTAMU hit .323 for the match, including .438 in the third game.

Senior setter Kendra Morgan dished out a match-high 39 assists and dug up a match-high 17 digs.

Bellarmine, from Louisville, Kentucky, was led by Chrissie Parker's 14 kills, along with 12 kills apiece from Kristin Lawler and Erika Aimers.

WTAMU, 4-1 in Lone Star Conference play, returns to conference action on Thursday, as the Lady Buffs travel to Stephenville, Texas to tangle with Tarleton State at 7 p.m., then travel to Kingsville, Texas on Saturday, to take on Texas A&M-Kingsville at 2 p.m.

The Lady Buffs return home to The Box on Oct. 28, hosting border-rival Eastern New Mexico at 7 p.m.
