The Streak Is Over: Lady Buffs Upset By Angelo State In Five Games Friday
Oct. 10, 2003
The West Texas A&M University volleyball team's NCAA-II record for consecutive victories vs. conference opponents came to an end at 77-straight Friday night, as the Lady Buffs were upset by Angelo State University in five-games (20-30, 30-27, 30-27, 28-30, 13-15).
The loss snaps WTAMU's NCAA-II record, which they established last Friday night in a win over Texas A&M-Kingsville.
The Lady Buffs, who also had their overall nine-match win streak, snapped, are now 17-6 overall and 3-1 in LSC action.
WTAMU was stymied by ASU's Nicole Stoffel, who pounded out a match-high 29 assists with a .407 hitting percentage. Lindsey Jones and Amber Smith added 17 and 15 kills, respectively. Amber Nelson set up a match-high 66 assists for the Rambelles, who defeated the Lady Buffs for the first time since 1993, snapping WTAMU's 19-match win streak vs. ASU.
A freshmen quartet led WTAMU, as outside hitter Jessica Scherr tallied 15 kills, while fellow outside hitter Rachel Altman chipped in with 13 kills. Middle blocker Ambra Clark registered 12 kills, and outside hitter Lindsey Schall added 10 kills.
Senior setter Kendra Morgan dished out 52 assists and posted 10 digs.
Fellow senior, libero Kacie Hyatt logged a match-high 28 digs, followed by Scherr with 26 digs and sophomore defensive specialist Brittani Bell with 16 digs.
WTAMU returns to action Saturday at 2 p.m., taking on Abilene Christian (17-6, 1-0 LSC), who swept Eastern New Mexico Friday night, at Abilene, Texas.
