CANYON, Texas – The #6-ranked West Texas A&M Lady Buffs made quick work of Southwestern Oklahoma in three sets with scores of 25-14, 25-12, and 25-16. The win lifts the Lady Buffs to 19-3 and 5-0 in the Lone Star Conference while Southwestern falls to 4-22, 1-4 in the LSC.

“I played a lot of younger girls this match to see if they could handle themselves,” said head coach Jason Skoch. “We got a good sense of how they will play and how good they can be.”

The Lady Buffs hit .565 in the first set while the defense held the Bulldogs to a .103 hitting percentage in the first set. That would prove to be their best set of the match offensively as the second set led to a negative hitting percentage of -.172 and the third set saw seven kills with seven errors for a .000 hitting percentage.

Five Southwestern hitters hit negative numbers, struggling to get things rolling.

For the Lady Buffs, Natalie Johnson (Sr., OH, Cortez, Colo.) led the team in kills with seven in 13 attempts for a .385 hitting clip. Freshmen Stormi Lancaster (OH, Mobeetie, Texas) and Kelsey Mangum (OH/DS, San Antonio, Texas) each recorded five kills, followed by Katie Rickwartz (Sr., S, Canyon, Texas) Lauren Thedford (Jr., OH/DS, Carrollton,Texas), and Erin Dougherty (Fr., MB, Omaha, Neb.) had four kills each.
