Lady Buffs Sweep Texas Woman's to Remain Undefeated in Conference Play

CANYON, Texas - The #7-ranked West Texas A&M Lady Buffs continued their dominance of the Lone Star Conference with a three-set sweep of Texas Woman's with scores of 25-20, 25-17, and 25-17.  The win lifts WT to 15-2, 4-0 in the LSC, while Texas Woman's falls to 9-9 and 2-2 in the LSC.

Three Lady Buffs tallied double-digit kills, led by Laura Prinsen (Sr., RS, Spring, Texas) with 14 in 23 attempts for a team leading hitting percentage among hitters of .478. She recorded another double-double adding 10 digs to go along with two service aces. Lauren Purdy (So., MB, Arlington, Texas) followed with 11 kills (.368) and Melissa Harper (Sr., MB, Peoria, Ariz.) with 10 (.273). Purdy also tallied two of the Lady Buffs' seven service aces.  

Setter Katie Rickwartz (Sr., Canyon, Texas) tallied 45 assists and led the team to a hitting percentage of .296. In the second set, the team tallied 19 kills and an incredible .406 hitting percentage. From the service line, Rickwartz was strong, with three service aces.

Defensively, three players recorded double-digit digs, led by Lauren Beville (Fr., L, Hereford, Texas) with 14, followed by Prinsen and Lauren Thedford (Jr., OH/DS, Carrollton, Texas) with 10 digs each, and holding the Pioneers to only one service ace. Thedford added two service aces to the Lady Buffs' seven.


 

 

WT remains on the road for a South Central region crossover tournament against the MIAA conference on Friday, Oct. 2, and Saturday, Oct. 3. The tournament takes place at Washburn University in Topeka, Kan.
