Final Stats

CANYON, Texas – The #7-ranked West Texas A&M Lady Buffs faced their second Lone Star Conference opponent, Angelo State, and despite struggles, were able to sweep the Rambelles with set scores of 25-20, 25-17, and 25-17.

The win lifts WT to 13-2 overall and 2-0 in the Lone Star Conference while Angelo falls to 9-6 and 1-1 in conference play.

The first set was a back a forth affair as WT struggled to put points together and had several unforced errors to finish with a score of 25-20. In the second set, WT started in control of the set but gave up five points to bring ASU within one point. Laura Prinsen (Sr., RSH, Spring, Texas) put down a kill to maintain the lead and take the second set. The final set saw the Lady Buffs get into a rhythm as they put together a 6-point run late in the set for the win.

Leading the Lady Buffs offensive attack was Prinsen with 12 kills, followed by Natalie Johnson (Sr., OH, Cortez, Colo.) with 10 kills. Middle blockers Melissa Harper (Sr., Peoria, Ariz.) and Lauren Purdy (So., Arlington, Texas) each contributed seven kills. Stormi Lancaster (Fr., OH, Mobeetie, Texas) registered five kills and Erika DuPree (So., OH, Mequite, Texas) registered three kills.


 

 

Katie Rickwartz (Sr., S, Canyon, Texas) tallied 36 assists and led the team to a hitting percentage of .275. She also led the team with service aces with three and assisted blocks with three to go along with two kills, and six digs.

Defensively, Lauren Beville (Fr., L, Hereford, Texas) and Kelsey Mangum (Fr., DS, San Antonio, Texas) each recorded 10 digs to lead the Lady Buffs. Lauren Thedford (Jr., OH, Carrollton, Texas) followed closely with nine of the Lady Buffs 56 total team digs.

WT continues Lone Star Conference action next week as they travel to Commerce, Texas to face Texas A&M-Commerce on Sept. 24, at 7:00 p.m. (CT). They will then face Texas Woman’s in Denton, Texas, on Saturday, Sept. 26, at 2:00 p.m. (CT).
