Final Stats

The 22nd-ranked West Texas A&M University volleyball team entered their last competition of the weekend in the Cameron Coke-Cola Classic tournament in Lawton, Oklahoma Saturday afternoon against LSC-rival University of Central Oklahoma Saturday afternoon anticipating a showdown. What was supposed to be a hard fought game between the two teams that have met for the conference title the last two years, turned out to be a 3-0 (26-30, 19-30, 24-30) sweep for the Bronchos.

It was the first time that the Lady Buffs have lost to the Bronchos since 1994, as WTAMU has beaten UCO for the Lone Star Conference Tournament title in each of the last two years.

After beating Cameron Friday night in four games, the Lady Buffs knew this was going to be a tough game, but simply came up a little flat.

Sophomore outside hitter Jessica Scherr led the Lady Buffs with seven kills on 24 attacks, while junior middle blocker Cynthia Carter and senior outside hitter Jill Steininger both had six kills.

On the defensive side of things, junior libero Brittani Bell had 18 digs while Scherr had 11.

The Lady Buffs only recorded five team blocks against the Bronchos which is a season low for the team.

The Lady Buffs continue their three-weekend road swing by traveling to UCO's arena to compete in the LSC-Heartland Conference Crossover Tournament at Edmond, Okla. next weekend, before returning home to the friendly confines of The Box on Sept. 21 to take on Lubbock Christian.
