The West Texas A&M University volleyball team, ranked No. 17 in the AVCA Division II Top 25 Poll released Tuesday afternoon, survived a serious scare from Lubbock Christian University, ranked No. 14 in the NAIA Top 25 Poll.

The Lady Buffs won a five-game thriller (30-14, 27-30, 30-27, 36-38, 15-12), to defeat the Chaparalls for the 12th-straight time, and improve their all-time record vs. LCU to 13-0-1. WT had swept the previous six meetings, and had not dropped a game since 1981, when the two teams played five games.

The win snaps a rare three-game skid for the Lady Buffs, the first since 1998, following three straight losses to ranked opponents over the weekend at the Division II Colorado Premier Challenge.

Senior setter Kendra Morgan posted her second triple-double of the season, dishing out 67 assists, recording 12 digs and 10 kills (zero errors, .556 hitting percentage). Morgan's 67 assists is just one off her career high.

Freshman outside hitter Jessica Scherr pounded 20 kills (season-high .543 hitting percentage) and had a season-high 24 digs. Fellow freshman and middle blocker Ambra Clark tallied 19 kills and had three blocks.

Senior libero Kacie Hyatt posted a career-high 37 digs, the fifth-highest single-match dig total in school history. It was the second-straight match that Hyatt has set a career-record for digs.

As a team, the Lady Buffs recorded 126, ranking fifth on the school-records list for digs in a single match.

WTAMU returns to action this weekend, continuing its month-long road trip, traveling to San Antonio for the Alamo Classic Tournament for the Alamo Classic Tournament. The Lady Buffs open the tournament Friday (Sept. 12) by taking on Arkansas Tech at 2 p.m. WTAMU will meet a pair of regional opponents, St. Mary's at 7 p.m. Friday and St. Edward's at 1 p.m. on Saturday.
