Lady Buffs Compete at Kansas State All-Comers Meet
Dec. 13, 2009
Manhattan, Kan. – The West Texas A&M women’s track and field team enjoyed several strong performances as they opened their 2009-10 indoor season at the Kansas State All-Comers Meet. The meet was slightly affected by the low light in Ahearn Field House, caused by a power outage over much of K-State's campus. “The women really came out and showed me that they know how to compete,” said WT head coach Darren Flowers. “We are a very young team and this was the first collegiate competition for many of our athletes. For them to come out and go toe-to-toe with experienced Division I athletes is a very good sign of what is to come. “Some of our weaknesses were exposed in this meet, which is something we will to improve upon over the winter break,” Flowers continued. “We’ll take a larger squad to Texas Tech in January and will hopefully bring the same focus we did this week.” In the 60m hurdles, Bailee Skeen and Rachel King finished third and fourth, respectively, with both finishing less than .2 off of the national provisional mark with times of 9.14 and 9.18. Allie Reyna clocked a time of 5:24.43 to place second in the mile run, while Aries Bazaldua finished third with a time of 5:30.10. The Lady Buffs’ 4x400m relay time, comprised of Sarah Snider, Morgan Shelton, Sadie Newsome and Tara Tarrant, finished fifth overall and was the fastest Division II relay team, with a time of 4:03.07.
In the shot, Jadiah Riley had an effort of 42-05.25 to finish third, overall. The Lady Buffs next competition will be Jan. 6, when they travel to Lubbock, Texas to compete in the Texas Tech Invitational. |
