Lubbock, Texas – West Texas A&M’s Bailee Skeen surpassed the NCAA provisional qualifying mark for the 55 meter hurdles, to top the Lady Buffs’ performances this past weekend at the Texas Tech Open, held this past Saturday in Lubbock, Texas.

Skeen clocked a personal best time of 8.35 in placing seventh in the event.

Other notable performances from the weekend included hurdler Kirsten McCowan placing 10th in the 55 hurdles with a time of 8.48, and distance runner Jessica Blakely finishing sixth in the 5,000 meters with a personal best of 19:50.6.

“Our women came out and really improved this week,” said WT head coach Darren Flowers. “We had a week off due to the weather and we faced some challenges getting all of our training in, but I thought we responded pretty well despite all of that.

“I was once again impressed by our hurdlers. All three of them made the finals in a very competitive environment, and, we had multiple personal bests in a variety of events. Although we don’t have a great deal of depth right now, I am happy with the continual progress of those who are competing.”

The Lady Buffs’ next outing will come Feb. 12-13, when they compete at the Air Force Invitational in Colorado Springs, Colo.
