CANYON, Texas - After a month of Christmas break, the Lady Buffs have returned to campus to begin the spring 2008 semester. They have also returned to Lady Buff Yard to begin preparation for their season opener.

The Lady Buffs will open their season on Feb. 9-10, when they travel to Denton, TX to participate in the Texas Woman's University Invitational Tournament. They will open play on Saturday with the host Pioneers at 11:30am and they also play Central Missouri (2pm) and St. Edward's (7pm) on the first day.

The Lady Buffs will conclude play on Sunday playing Henderson State at 9am and Midwestern State at 2pm. The panhandle weather has had little effect on the Lady Buffs preparation to this point. They have only been forced inside for a couple of workouts in the first two weeks.

"Unlike last year when we were unable to get outside before our first game, we have been able to have some very good workouts outside," commented head coach Kevin Blaskowski. He added, "We are just about where I expected us to be at this point. We are not close to where we want to be, but we are definitely going to be ready to play when we get to Denton."

The Lady Buffs have nineteen players in camp this spring with four pitchers and 15 positional players. At this time, Blaskowski feels he has a good idea who will be on the field for the opener, but he is unready to make any commitments.

"Everyone has been working very hard to this point. I am please with our effort. I believe that we have the ability to put a couple of different looks on the field. Fortunately, we have options. We have not always been able to say that in our first two years."

After playing their first twelve games on the road, the Lady Buffs will host Ft. Hays State in their home opener on Feb. 21. Game times are set for 12p and 2p at Lady Buff Yard.

The Lady Buffs have 63 games on their spring schedule with 21 of them scheduled for Lady Buff Yard. They will host 12 non-conference games and three Lone Star Conference weekends.

The LSC weekends will consist of three-game series with each opponent. The series will feature a Saturday doubleheader followed by a single game on Sunday.

"I like the new LSC format," commented Blaskowski. "It makes every game important and there will be a winner of each series. I think it will also give us an opportunity to market our games better and hopefully get more people out to The Yard."

Moore Joins Lady Buffs for Spring 2008

Courtney Moore, a sophomore utility player, has joined the Lady Buffs for the 2008 spring season. Moore, a transfer from the University of Dallas, is a graduate of Klein Oak HS in Spring, TX.

As a freshman at the Univ. of Dallas, Moore set a school record for most games started (35). She batted .284, collecting 11 doubles and 31 total base hits. She hit one home run and had 17 RBI.

In high school, Moore was a second-team all -district selection as a senior.

"Courtney has impressed us with her skills despite not playing a fall season," commented Blaskowski. "I think she will help us a lot this spring,"

Moore will major in athletic training.
