Lady Buffs Fall To Abilene Christian, 10-2, Despite Early Lead

Abilene, Texas – The Lady Buffs’ early lead was not enough against Abilene Christian in the second round of Lone Star Conference tournament action at Polly Wells Field in Abilene, Texas. The game was called after five innings with a final score of 10-2. The Lady Buffs fall to 35-20 overall, while Abilene Christian rises to 41-11 overall. WT will continue Lone Star Conference tournament action today, facing the winner of Midwestern State and Central Oklahoma. The Lady Buffs started the first with a base hit by Kasey Henderson, who late scored on a double by Kaitlin Witte for one run. WT continued in the top of the second inning as Amber Farr rapped an RBI double to score Audrey Wallace. ACU scored one run in the bottom of the second to bring the score to 2-1.
The defensive efforts of both teams stepped up in the fourth as both teams were scoreless with each team stranding two runners on base.
The Wildcats switched pitchers in the fifth, with Kim Partin taking the circle and making quick work of the first three Lady Buffs batters. The Wildcats started the bottom of the fifth with two doubles and a run to make the score to 6-2. Two more long balls drove in four more runs to bring the score to 10-2 and end the game.
Wright and Pearson each pitched 2.1 innings. Wright faced 14 batters, struck out one, walked one, and allowed five earned runs. Pearson faced 15 batters, striking out two, walking two, and allowing four earned runs.
The Lady Buffs now move to the bottom of the bracket and face the winner of Midwestern State and Central Oklahoma on Saturday, April 25, at 6:00 p.m.
