Box Score

CANYON, Texas - The West Texas A&M softball team struggled on Saturday at Lady Buff Yard, dropping both games of a doubleheader to visiting Tarleton State, by the scores of 10-0 and 6-3. The setbacks drop the Lady Buffs' overall record to 19-26 and their Lone Star Conference South mark to 4-7.

The series continues on Sunday with a single game at 1:3o p.m. from Lady Buff Yard. Sunday's contest will be an extra special day at Lady Buff Yard as WT softball partners with the Susan G. Komen for the Cure (Greater Amarillo affiliate) and the Woman's Imaging Center at the Northwest Texas Healthcare System to "Paint the Yard Pink." The event is promoting breast cancer research and will feature area cancer survivors as well as the Lady Buffs' first ever appearance in pink jerseys.

Game #1 Recap (Tarleton State 10, West Texas A&M 0 - Five innings)
The TexAnns jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning as designated player Brittnee Rice hit the first of her two home runs in the contest, a three-run shot. Rice went 2-for-2 at the plate with five RBI during the opener.

A four-run Tarleton third inning and a three-run inning in the fourth frame gave the visitors a 10-0 lead and put the game out of reach.

TSU's Brooke Saulters picked up the win by scattering three Lady Buff hits as only Amber Farr, Kaitlyn Witte and Jessica Ruzicki hit safely.

Freshman Shannon O'Dea (8-11) was hit hard in the circle, allowing 10 runs on 12 hits.

Game #2 Recap (Tarleton State 6, West Texas A&M 3)
Sophomore Amber Farr went 3-for-4 at the plate, but the Buffs dropped the nightcap to the TexAnns by a score 6-3.

Unfortunately for the Buffs, game two starter Andrea Renteria two got off the same rocky start as counterpart Shannon O'Dea did in the opener when the TexAnns plated three runs in the top of the first.

After a TSU run in the top of the fourth made it 4-0, the Lady Buffs were finally able to break through off TexAnn pitcher Lauren Zearfoss. Sophomore catcher Dani Couger was able to come home on a throwing error and junior left fielder Jessica Ruzicki plated a second run with a RBI single during the inning.

A final WT rally fell short in the bottom of the seventh, as then the Lady Buffs scored a run on a Couger single to cut the lead to 6-3, but a double play ended the threat.
