Lady Buffs Drop Second Game of Doubleheader, 7-1, Against St. Edward's
Feb. 7, 2010 SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The Lady Buffs did not fare well in the second game against St. Edward's, losing 7-1 after falling in the opening game, 8-4, earlier Sunday morning. The Lady Buffs fall to 2-4 overall for the season. Kaitlyn Witte (JR, Midland, Texas) was the starting pitcher for the second game and held off the Hilltoppers offensive attack, allowing no hits or runs in the first two innings. The Lady Buffs had a scoring opportunity in the top of the third, as Kasey Henderson (Jr, Katy, Texas) was on third and raced toward home plate, but was caught stealing by catcher Courtney Lavender, leaving the score, 0-0. It was St. Edwards' Miranda Yaeger who finally provided the Hilltoppers with their first hit of the game, launching a solo home run down the left field line to make the score 1-0. Any chance to close the Hilltopper lead began to fade in the fourth inning with three more runs driven in by the Hilltoppers. Meanwhile, the Lady Buffs continued to be shut down at the plate. In the top of the fifth, a Henderson double down the left field line scored Kristina Myles (So, Southlake, Texas) to close the Lady Buffs' deficit to 4-1. "The game was close for a few innings, but then it got away from us," said WT head coach Kevin Blaskowski. The Hilltoppers' offensive attack wasn't over, as Ally Valdez snagged a solo home run and Meagen Bailey launched a two-run home run in the bottom of the fifth to make the final score to 7-1. "All in all, we saw a lot of good this weekend," continued coach Blaskowski. "We need some quality outdoor practice time to clean some things up."
